2018 Pennsylvania Tax Filing Season

2018 Filing Season

Pennsylvania’s tax filing season opens today. The Department of Revenue expects to process more than 6.4 million individual tax returns this year. The deadline to file a return will be April 17, 2018.

This is also a reminder that the Internal Revenue Service will not open its tax filing season until Jan. 29, 2018. As a result, those using tax preparation software to file their federal and state returns should know that their state returns will not be processed until the IRS opens its filing season.

Schedules C & UE

As a result of feedback received by the Department, we have revised the Schedules C & UE Filing Tips:

Tips for reporting common expenses (Schedule UE)

Additionally, for the 2018 tax season, the Department has made changes relative to our review of Schedule C expenses in an effort to reduce the number of returns suspended and to allow for a more timely processing of both the return and any related refund. These changes will also allow for better coordination with other enforcement efforts, such as the review of Schedule C revenues.
