Description: | Ethics for Tax Return Preparers—This course will provide federal tax return preparers with a thorough and comprehensive overview of the ethical requirements of Circular 230 and other relevant standards of conduct. The discussion will include the sometimes conflicting duties preparers owe to both the taxpayer and the Internal Revenue Service, detail the standards of competency under Circular 230 Section 10.35, and offer guidance on protection of confidential client information. This course will feature practical scenarios involving client and IRS relations and offer guidance on how to navigate sometime sticky ethical questions. Form 990 Not For Profit Tax Return Overview—This course is to train both new and experienced preparers how to navigate the Form 990, recognize common issues when filing Form 990, describe basic not-for-profit issues, explain unrelated business income and its impact to not-for-profit entities, identify common mistakes made during Form 990 preparation, and determine proper reporting requirements for unique situations for not-for-profits. It is a practical guide to navigating some of the more challenging aspects of completing Form 990. Form 990-T: UBTI and UBIT in IRAs and Other Qualified Plans Overview—A brief discussion to supplement the Form 990 Presentation will provide tax professionals with a practical guide to calculating and reporting unrelated debt financed income (UDFI) and unrelated business taxable income (UBIT) rising from the sales of property financed with debt. An example will be discussed of how to calculate and apportion proceeds and income between exempt purposes and unrelated business for sales of mixed-use property, with an illustration on how to report UDFI income and deductions on Form 990-T, Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return. The provided guide will address tax consequences of UBTI in exempt trusts, offering instructions on identifying UBTI-generating assets, and discussing filing and payment requirements arising from UBTI in qualified plans. |
