The sale or transfer of a personal residence is one of the most common—and financially significant—transactions clients face. Whether during life, in divorce, or after death, understanding the tax consequences is essential for accurate reporting and effective planning.

This course provides a foundational overview of the federal tax rules governing the family home. Participants will learn how to apply the IRC §121 gain exclusion, evaluate basis adjustments at death, and calculate gain when a residence is converted to or from rental use. The course also explores planning opportunities to minimize income tax through strategic timing and structuring of transfers.
