Accurate basis tracking is essential for proper tax reporting, loss limitations, and gain recognition. Yet many preparers are still uncovering basis errors caused by misreported PPP loans and ERTC refunds—errors that can significantly understate shareholder or partner basis.

This course provides foundational training on basis reporting for S corporation shareholders (Form 7203), partners, and LLC members. Participants will learn how to identify common basis miscalculations, reconstruct basis when records are incomplete, and correct reporting errors stemming from pandemic-era relief programs. The course also covers basis adjustments for incoming and exiting owners, asset contributions and distributions, and entity closures. Practical strategies and examples will help tax professionals spot issues and protect clients from compliance risk.
