This class will explain dementia and its warning signs. We will discuss the obligations for EAs regarding the sharing of information, collection of information, and review of the returns with clients. Through interactive discussions about various scenarios, we will develop ideas for handling dementia clients.

Objectives:

  • Explain dementia and related issues.
  • Propose possible scenarios for dealing with clients with dementia or who you suspect have dementia.
  • Identify the requirements of EAs including DPOA, form 56, and/or form 2848.
  • Develop strategies.

Beth Logan, EA

Beth Logan, EA is a lead Tax Advisor at Kozlog Tax Advisers. She is Past President of the Massachusetts Society of Enrolled Agents, member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents, a graduate of the NAEA Schuldiner/Smollan Leadership Academy (SSLA), and recipient of the 2023 NAEA Excellence in Education Award. Beth is the lead author of the national EA Journals’ BitCoin article, a tax instructor, and author of multiple books on taxes.
